Welcome to the

Moody Book Room

While we love all of our clients, it's not often we have the opportunity to design a space for a loved one. For this special project, my sister wanted to transform her boring, cluttered catch-all storage room into a cozy retreat where she could escape with her books and large collection of antiques and thrifted treasures. She envisioned a space that was moody, ethereal, and full of personality, just for her. So, we leaned into maximalism and created a room brimming with character.

We started by drenching the room in a deep green, giving the space a rich, intimate vibe, and added a dark ceiling dotted with stars and constellations to create the feeling of a magical, otherworldly space. The room’s focal point is the fireplace, where floating candles cast a soft, dreamy glow, enhancing the ethereal atmosphere while the shelving flanking either side display her beloved books, trinkets and baubles.

The eclectic furniture reflects my sister’s love for all things unique and second-hand. Every item in the room has a story, contributing to the cozy, layered feel. We also added a gallery wall full of art, framed curiosities, and more thrifted finds, giving a whimsical vibe.

In the end, we created the perfect space for her to unwind, get lost in a book, or simply enjoy the beauty of her collected treasures. It's a retreat that combines the charm of the past with a moody, maximalist style that’s all about comfort, creativity, and escape.
